For years, to the red wine, my heart was bound
The Tavern became alive with my prayer and my sound.
See the Old Magi's goodness, with us, the drunks,
Saw whatever we did, in everyone beauty had found.
오랜 세월, 내 마음은 붉은 술에 취했더니
선술집은 내 기도와 읊조림으로 북적였다
늙은 승려의 미덕을 보라, 친구여, 취한 자여
우리가 저지른 일을 돌이켜 보니, 아름답지 않은 자가 없구나
Wash away all our knowledge with red wine,
Firmaments, themselves, the knowing minds hound.
Seek that from idols, O knowing heart,
Said the one whose insights, his knowledge crowned.
붉은 술에 모든 지식을 씻어 보내라
천상에선 안다하는 마음이야말로 괴로움이나니
오, 똑똑한 그 마음이여, 그대가 우상이로구나
식견있는 이는 말하리, 왕관은 그 지식에나 주라고
My heart, like a compass, goes round and round,
I'm lost in that circle, with foot firmly on the ground.
Minstrel did what he did from pain of Love,
Lashes of wise-of-the-world in their bloody tears have drowned.
내 마음, 나침반처럼 떠도는구나
난 그 속에서 길을 잃고 붙박혀 버렸다
시인은 사랑의 고통으로 자신의 일을 삼으니
세상의 현명한 매질은 피맺힌 눈물속에 사그라져간다
With joy my heart bloomed, like that flower by the stream
Under the shade of that tall spruce, myself, I found.
My colorful wise Master, in my dealings with the black robes,
My meanness checked and bound, else my stories would astound.
Hafiz's cloudy heart in this trade was not spent,
This merchant saw and heard every hidden sight and sound.
내 마음은 환희로 만발하여 꽃이 되어 흐르니
커다란 보리수 그늘 아래서, 나 자신을 찾았노라
시장통에서도 하피즈의 흐릿한 마음은, 여직 지치지 않았으니
